How to travel to the hostel
– by plane:
The nearest airports are Hannover (HAJ) (approx. 130 km), Leipzig (LEJ) (approx. 130 km) or Berlin (BER/TXL) (approx. 260 km)
The airport that has the easiest connection is Hannover Langenhagen (HAJ). From there, take the train to Hannover Hbf and change there towards Wernigerode (for some connections, you need to change trains at Braunschweig Hbf / Vienenburg, some go directly from Hannover without a train change). – by train:
Hannover –> Wernigerode direct connection with Regional Express (RE) approx. 1:50 h (recommended)
Leipzig –> Halle/Saale – Wernigerode, approx. 2:00 h
Berlin –> Magdeburg –> Wernigerode, approx. 3:00 h

Ticket sales for journeys in September usually start around end of June.

- Take the train to station “Hauptbahnhof Wernigerode”
- There, take the “Citybus” Number 1 (hourly, last dept. about 5pm) or Number 4 (hourly, last dept. about 7pm) to the stop “Hochschule Harz”. Travel time is about 15 – 20 minutes. Detailed timetables (German only) can be found here:

From the bus stop “Hochschule Harz” it is about a 500 meter walk to the youth hostel. There is signage. - After the orange house (bakery) turn right and follow the road “Am Eichberg” which takes a slightly left turn uphill.
- The youth hostel is on the right hand side.
– by car:
B number = Bundesstrasse = federal highway
L number = Landstrasse = smaller state road

A14 in the direction of Magdeburg,
motorway junction Bernburg to the B6 in direction of Quedlinburg/Blankenburg (pass both cities)
Take B6(n) in direction Wernigerode
Take the exit “Wernigerode Zentrum”
Drive on B244 in the direction of Schierke, in Wernigerode “Am Westerntor” turn right into the Friedrichstraße,
After the bus stop “Hochschule Harz” look for an orange house (bakery) and turn right afterwards into the road “Am Eichberg” which takes a slight left turn. The youth hostel is on the right hand side.
* coming from Berlin/Magdeburg
drive the A2 to Magdeburg, take exit no. 68 to change to A14
A14 exit no. 5, follow the signs of B81 to Halberstadt
drive through Halberstadt and follow the B81 in direction of Wernigerode
turn right into Friedenstraße = take B6(n) in direction of Wernigerode
Take the exit “Wernigerode Zentrum”
Drive on B244 in the direction of Schierke, in Wernigerode “Am Westerntor” turn right into the Friedrichstraße,

A2 in the direction of Berlin, take motorway junction no. 55 interchange “Kreuz Braunschweig-Nord” change to A391 in the direction of Kassel/Salzgitter/Braunschweig
At the motorway junction no. 13 “Braunschweig Süd” keep right and change to A395 in the direction of Bad Harzburg / Wolfenbüttel
Behind Vienenburg at the forked junction, turn left on the B6 in the direction of Wernigerode/Abbenrode
Take the exit “Wernigerode Nord” right to the direction of Schierke/B244
turn left onto L85, in Wernigerode “Am Westerntor” turn right into the Friedrichstraße,
After the bus stop “Hochschule Harz” look for an orange house (bakery) and turn right afterwards into the road “Am Eichberg” which takes a slight left turn. The youth hostel is on the right hand side.
* coming from A7 (north/Hamburg or south Frankfurt area, Kassel)
From South&North:
Exit no. 66: Rhüden/Harz
drive to B82 in direction of Goslar/Bad Harzburg/ Rhüden
stay on the B82 in direction of Langelsheim/Goslar/B82/ Bad Harzburg
follow the signs to B6/Goslar-Zentrum/ Bad Harzburg
stay on the B6 in direction of Wernigerode
Take the exit “Wernigerode Nord”, turn right in the direction of Schierke/B244
turn left in the direction of L85, in Wernigerode “Am Westerntor” turn right into the Friedrichstraße,
After the bus stop “Hochschule Harz” look for an orange house (bakery) and turn right afterwards, into the road “Am Eichberg” which takes a slight left turn. The youth hostel is on the right hand side.
Alternate route from North (it’s shorter):
